Below are some projects, music, video, press, score samples, oh my!

I am proud to be a winner of the Write Out Loud Contest! This wonderful organization partners songwriters with Broadway alums to record their music (stream the EP here!) and put on a concert at 54 Below.

“We Are Here: Songs from the Holocaust”

It has been my honor to write the script + English lyrics and co-produce this event over the past year. On January 26th, 2023, “We Are Here” performed songs and stories from the ghettos and camps to a sold-out audience at Carnegie Hall. Follow @we.are.here.concert on Instagram for updates!

A Bridge to the Moon

60 minutes no intermission, cast size 3-9. Script, score, and demos available upon request.

Dreams, loss, climbing toward the stars on string lights. In the face of an environmental crisis, three grieving siblings are tasked with collecting moonlight to hold their island and family together. When Lil decides to take drastic action in hopes of finding their mother or at the very least, some answers, the limits of their world are tested. Written in collaboration with the American Music Theatre Project as a Capstone for the Creating the Musical Module, A Bridge to the Moon celebrates the power of a child’s dreams and the risks we will take to care for our community.

This iteration of our heartfelt eco-fable is a filmed theatre piece: 70 minutes of Michael-Ellen Walden, Ruchir Khazanchi, and Emmet Smith making music, making believe, and making absolute fools of ourselves in a living room-turned mythical island of Marama. In the 2020-21 winter, during pandemic-induced lockdown, the three of us were able to safely get in a room together to create this original folk-tale, write the music, rehearse, design a set, and film the piece, directed by Autumn Thelander. We hope our play can take you on a fantastical adventure to another world while reckoning with the grief and complexities of this one.

A BRIDGE TO THE MOON (book, music, lyrics) won Third Prize at the international Search for New Musicals 2021 at New Musicals, Inc. in Los Angeles!

State of the Art

90 minutes with intermission, cast size 13-26

State of the Art follows a covert group of artists vandalizing world-renowned pieces of street art in a not-so-distant future metropolis. When the mayor’s misfit son, Ty, crosses paths with the crew of vandals, he starts to realize that the stories he’s come to believe about his city’s origin are far from the truth. And for once, Ty discovers he can break from the mold set out for him by his politically minded parents to forge a life for himself. Meanwhile, the city campaigns to become the new national capital, and will do anything in their power to keep the disruptive acts of vandalism from getting in their way – even if it means tearing apart the families and communities the city claims to protect.

"State of the Art" premiered on May 1st, 2020, in a first-of-its-kind live theatre digital presentation. "State of the Art” was written for the 89th Annual Waa-Mu Show at Northwestern University. Writing Coordinators: Ruchir Khazanchi, Emmet Smith, Matthew Threadgill, and Mikey Walden, with a team of 33 student writers.
